A Look at ALL the U.S. Military-Issued Rifles Since 1776

From the flintlock musket to the M4 combat rifle, U.S. infantry weapons have come a very long way. Sometimes, it’s hard to appreciate just how far we have come until we see all of them in action at once.

This is exactly what YouTuber hickok45 did with one of his most recent uploads, and it’s a lot of fun to watch. As the shooter starts with the very first weapon that people who called themselves Americans used to fight for their freedom against the British Empire, what follows is an informative breakdown of each major military-issued rifle.

Of course, this video doesn’t cover every single small arm American infantry members have used since the Declaration of Independence, but it does cover each major era of American military history. Military operations are constantly evolving. And considering the unique role the United States plays in its foreign policy, technology evolves with them. This is partly why America’s military is always at least two or three steps ahead of everyone else.

For the perfect blend of history and good old-fashioned firearm demonstrations, be sure to check out the video below.
