Armed Bystander Stops Mass Shooting Inside McDonald’s

0

A brave father is being called a hero after he stopped what could have been a mass shooting inside a Mcdonald’s restaurant in Alabama.

A masked gunman barged into the McDonald’s just before the store closed, and immediately opened fire. The father was just leaving the McDonald’s with his two teenage sons as this whole scenario unfolded. Luckily, this father happened to be armed, and fired back at the gunman. A total of more than 15 shots were exchanged as several employees managed to hide in a freezer.

The father and one of his sons were struck, but the masked gunman was killed. There were no other casualties. However, that almost certainly would not have been the case had the father not been able to respond the way he did.

After the incident was over, employees were surprised to be alive. One employee who had been hiding in a freezer said that he expected the gunman to shoot everyone in the restaurant and then come looking for the other employees who were hiding. He remembers “just wishing someone would come wake me up from this nightmare.”

“He is my hero,” an employee said about the armed bystander, adding that he could “only imagine how it would’ve went if he (father) wasn’t armed.” Another employee said that he felt grateful to be alive.

Police have identified the slain gunman as Antonio Demond Sanders. He apparently resided in Birmingham, and was 24 years old. Authorities are not sure if Sanders had been targeting a specific employee, was attempting to rob the restaurant, or anything else. What they are sure about, however, is that this situation could have been much worse.

This incident could have easily ended like another deadly shooting that occurred at McDonald’s in 1984. In that scenario, gunman James Oliver Huberty walked into a California McDonalds heavily armed and ready for battle. He shot into the crowd of diners and employees During the horrifying incident, and no one was able to stop him. A total of 21 innocent people were murdered, and scores more were injured. A 4-month-old baby and other children were among the victims. It is possible that maybe this incident would not have ended in tragedy had there been an armed citizen ready to take action.

In the recent incident in Alabama, authorities are saying that the father will not be charged with anything due to Alabama’s Stand Your Ground” law. States with this law give individuals the right to defend themselves or others if they feel their lives are in danger. This includes the use of lethal force.
