Oregon Democrats Ask High Schoolers to Write a Gun Control Bill
In yet another issue of our Second Amendment chronicles, lawmakers are leveraging students to brew unrest over gun control issues.
In Oregon, the recent election of liberal Democrats has caused a renewed interest in creating problems where there are none — namely in the area of gun ownership and the number of guns an individual can purchase in any given month. Since they don’t have a lot of support from other individuals, these lawmakers have asked high school students to help them craft the legislation. It’s unclear what kids know about the topic other than the information they’re being fed by the liberal media, but they appear to be the last-ditch effort of these Salem lawmakers to make some waves in their community around gun control.
Not only does this proposed legislation limit the number of guns an individual can own and how many they can purchase in any given month, it will also introduce limits on ammunition. This includes so-called “high capacity” magazines, defined by the proposed law as those magazines that carry more than five rounds. Yes, apparently any weapon whose magazine holds more than five rounds is an exceptionally dangerous one these days.
The bill doesn’t stop there. Permits would be required to purchase guns, and there are strict limitations on purchasing beyond what is already in place in the state. Under the proposed legislation, individuals would only be granted two permits per month, with one for handguns and another for a long gun. Background checks are required for the purchase of ammunition, and individuals can still only purchase 20 rounds of ammunition per individual on a rolling 30-day period.
Thankfully, lawmakers don’t think the bill has a chance. Rep. Andrea Salinas, a Democrat from Lake Oswego is one of the two sponsors of the bill. Oddly enough, even she doesn’t believe that it will pass, stating that “it’s what the students wanted to put in front of the Legislature”. Apparently, it’s a good use of taxpayer dollars to introduce yet another Second Amendment rights-limiting bill that is simply a ploy to get attention.
Republicans who believe in protecting our Second Amendment rights are horrified that something like this would even make it to the docket, but are gearing up to fight — yet again — for the rights of individuals living in Oregon. What was once considered a bastion of the Old West is now becoming yet another outpost for gun-hating liberals with an agenda, it seems..
