The Coolest New Products from SHOT Show 2018

Just in case you missed it, the SHOT Show is an annual showcase for manufacturers as they introduce new products — everything from guns to sights and accessories. This year’s show was particularly exciting, as many new handguns were introduced, both for home defense and other uses.

While the stopping power of a rifle or shotgun is incredible, handguns are prized by homeowners for their ability to be concealed and their ease of use. The additional rounds that are available to protect your loved ones is another key consideration when selecting a weapon for protecting your home.

These handguns were our favorites from the 2018 SHOT Show attendees.

Hero Custom 1911
Pistols are a particular choice for protection in families as they are easier to secure against the curious eyes (and hands!) of children than are larger weapons. Kimber’s Hero Custom 1911 handgun proudly displays the American flag on the black barrel, with a snakeskin grip in shades of tan and deep gray. The 8.7″ long model is only 1.28″ wide, weighing a mere 38 ounces — making it ideal for home defense. This .45 includes a 7-round capacity as well as red and green optic sights, making it a beginner-friendly option. Another win is that the proceeds from this weapon go to a charity that supports U.S. military families and veterans.

Colt Night Cobra
While the Colt Night Cobra is not a truly new weapon, but a derivative of the 2017 introduction of the Colt Cobra, it is still worthy of a mention. The small .38 boasts a 6-round cylinder instead of the traditional 5-round, and is ideal for self-defense. Intended for concealed carry work, the smaller form-factor really packs a punch — and a fairly high recoil as well. The handgun’s profile overall has been smoothed to make it less likely to catch on clothing as it is concealed. Rubber grips and a double-action mode make this a significant update to an already-interesting weapon.
