Democrats Are Using New Zealand to Attack the Second Amendment

Following New Zealand’s reactionary misstep banning semi-automatic weapons following a mass shooting, Democrats are mounting a quick offensive to strip Americans of their Second Amendment rights.

In Colorado, the state’s Democrat-led Senate advanced a so-called “Red Flag” bill that would open the door for citizens to point the finger at a gun owner, call them a threat and law enforcement would be compelled to seize their firearms. Despite Democrats’ claims the legislation provides due process of law, Red Flag legislation makes no requirement that an individual is proven a risk or even arrested for a crime. Officers could be compelled to kick down a law-abiding citizen’s door based on rumor and innuendo.

Colorado Republicans have been fighting an uphill battle to prevent the violation of the U.S. Constitution. Sen. Jack Tate inserted language that would punish those who make false accusations about someone being mentally unstable or a danger. But fellow Republicans see the truth — it’s a gun grab.

“The criteria for a 72-hour hold is you are a danger to yourself and others,” GOP state Sen. John Cooke and former sheriff reportedly said. “Well, that’s what this bill is saying, too — to come in and take your guns. But the problem is you leave the person at the house. It’s gun confiscation, and it’s really short on mental health. So, if you’re going to take the gun, you ought to take the person instead if they are that dangerous.”

But Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser testified before the state’s legislature in favor of crushing gun rights. The far-left Democrat took the partisan position despite an outcry by sheriffs declaring they would refuse to enforce the Red Flag law expected to be signed by Democrat Gov. Jared Polis.

“If you pass an unconstitutional law, our oaths as commissioners or myself as the sheriff — we’re going to follow our constitutional oath first,” Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams reportedly said.

Weld County officials recently voted to become a “Second Amendment Sanctuary.” Logan County officials also followed suit and plan to reject the anti-Second Amendment legislation.

“It’s time we quit trying to put lipstick on a pig and start funding our mental health facilities, instead of trying to take the rights from our people,” Logan County Sheriff Brett Powell said. “In Colorado, it’s not a crime to harm yourself.”

According to a report by Rally for Our Rights, upwards of 22 Colorado counties have declared themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuaries,” including the state’s largest, El Paso. It appears Colorado has emerged as a Second Amendment battleground state.

But since 2018, Red Flag laws have been enacted in Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Democrat strongholds such as Connecticut and California had already had a red flag law version in place. Although gun rights advocates in Colorado have respectfully petitioned the governor to veto the legislation, the alternative is clear. They will stand their ground against any and all infringements of the Constitution. That being said, left-wing extremists in Washington, D.C., are using the New Zealand weapons ban as a rallying point.

“We must follow New Zealand’s lead, take on the NRA and ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons in the United States,” Vermont Sen. Bernie reportedly tweet. The socialist icon is currently campaigning to win the Democratic Party’s nomination for president.

His fellow Democrats running for the party’s nod such as Beto O’Rourke, Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Sen. Cory Booker, and others all favor banning at least semi-automatic weapons at the federal level. If a Democrat wins the White House in 2020, it could signal the end of Second Amendment gun ownership rights as we know them. To that end, let the words of New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern resonate:

“I want to remind people: you can surrender your gun to the police at any time. In fact, I‘ve seen reports that people are in fact already doing this. I applaud their effort, and if you’re thinking about surrendering your weapon, I would encourage you to do so.”

And if you don’t, expect storm troopers to kick down your door at 4am and take them. Democrats have never been so aggressive about stripping Americans of their ability to protect themselves and their families with firearms as they are right now.
