Virginians Stand Their Ground Against Liberal Gun-Grab

Gun owners in Virginia sent a powerful message to Democrats trying to strip them of Second Amendment gun rights — come and get them.

“You have hundreds of people turning out every single time (in protest) and that’s what I think Virginia Democrats didn’t appreciate when they began this tactic and their overall strategy of disarmament, and let’s be really clear because that’s what this is. This is what Democrats envision for the rest of America,” former NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch said.

Gov. Ralph Northam has disgracefully attacked law-abiding citizens who own firearms for recreational, hunting, and self-defense purposes. This marks the first time in the state’s history that liberals control the state’s House, Senate, and governorship, and they have every intention of trampling the rights of decent people. The Virginia governor has joined with anti-gun forces to deliver a death blow if unchecked. Not only are Democrats trying to subvert the Constitution, but they also want citizens to pay to be disarmed.

“As if Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s wholesale attack on law-abiding gun owners wasn’t enough, the disgraced public official and his Michael Bloomberg-bought allies in the General Assembly now want the state’s hard-working taxpayers to foot the bill for their unconstitutional schemes,” an NRA report states. “The budget bill (HB30) includes an appropriation of a quarter-million dollars to carry out a host of gun control measures that Northam and his anti-gun allies hope to enact.”

The bill allows upwards of $250,000 to take away firearms by funding law enforcement seizures and prisons to house those who refuse to give up their guns. Virginia Democrats are targeting commonly owned semi-automatic handguns and rifles by flooding the media was false information about the dangers of these firearms.

According to FBI data, long guns rank below knives, fists, and blunt objects, in terms of weapons used in national homicide rates. A 1997 Department of Justice study concluded that when Democrats pushed to ban so-called assault weapons, that “the assault weapons ban can have only a limited effect on total gun murders, because the banned weapons and magazines were never involved in more than a modest fraction of all gun murders.”

More recent studies by the ATF indicated that disarming lawful gun ownership would have only a negligible impact on curbing firearm deaths. The reality of responsible gun ownership is that it acts as a powerful self-defense deterrent and routinely saves lives. That’s why local leaders across Virginia are standing their ground and declaring themselves Second Amendment Sanctuaries.

The Virginia Beach City Council recently joined the fight by passing a resolution proclaiming it stands as a Second Amendment “constitutional” municipality.

“There’s one Democrat lawmaker who actually proposed to ban gun ranges. They want to ban gun ranges because it’s all about gun sense and gun safety, but yet I guess a part of that gun sense and gun safety is to make it to where law-abiding Americans can’t actually train to carry their arms and practice their marksmanship, which doesn’t sound like gun sense or gun safety to me,” Loesch explained.

To date, 99 cities and counties have adopted a measure indicating they support Second Amendment rights and consider themselves a sanctuary from proposed Democrat gun grabs. Others have scheduled open hearings to discuss joining the fight to protect American freedoms. Only five towns are not planning to join the anti-firearms resistance.

“It’s taking a stand to protect your constitutional rights and sending a message to Richmond that we will not stand by and do nothing,” Augusta County official Pam Carter said after approving a sanctuary measure. “You ought not to have to abide by something that is blatantly unconstitutional.”

Liberal political commentators and the fake news media have called the widespread Virginia response a political stunt, pointing out that state law supersedes local ordinances. Clearly, they are looking at this movement from their own lack of commitment. Democrats at the local, state and federal levels continue to show their yellow side when things get rocky. In Virginia, like other places ready to defend the Constitution, patriots know the government should fear its citizens, not the other way around.
