Wisconsin Company to Give Employees Handguns for Christmas
With all the talk of mass shootings at workplace locations, we’re taking a wild guess that something like that isn’t going to happen any time soon at one Wisconsin-based glassware business.
Granted, with only 16 employees, Hortonville’s BenShot is a small venture where everyone likely enjoys a friendly work environment. But there’s another reason why this is suddenly going to be one of the safest places to work — every single one of them is about to be armed.
BenShot, which produces glass products with bullets embedded inside of them, will reportedly give every single one of its employees a new handgun for Christmas. In combination with firearm training, business owner Ben Wolfgram says it’s part of an effort to promote personal safety.
According to local media, at least two of the employees initially turned down the generous offer, but later changed their minds after taking safety courses. The employees were reportedly told to pick their own revolvers. Wolfgram says this is the first time his company has done anything like this.
The move comes as gun control once again tops the national debate in America. In California, a gunman recently opened fire inside of a bar. Months before that, another gunman reportedly shot and wounded his co-workers inside of a software company. however, Wolfgram says he isn’t concerned the same thing will happen to his company.
“For us, now, we have an entire armed staff,” he told Hortonville’s Post-Crecent. “I think that’s pretty good.”
BenShot has been operating since 2015. Its employees include military veterans as well as a few individuals who have reportedly never shot a firearm in their lives. Judging by their reactions, however, they don’t seem too bothered by their boss’s generous Christmas present.
“I’ve never been a part of anything like this,” employee Chelsea Priest said.
If we’ve learned anything about how national discourse works, the gun control debate is not going to subside any time soon in America. One thing is certain, however: just about every gun owner probably wishes he or she worked for BenShot right now.
